AdventHealth Central Florida Division welcomed Dr. Peter Nagele, MD, MSc as Chief Scientific Officer for the AdventHealth Central Florida Division.
A nationally recognized, NIH‑funded physician‑scientist, Dr. Nagele will help accelerate our research strategy, expand NIH and industry partnerships, mentor emerging investigators, and strengthen how scientific discovery is integrated into whole‑person care. Dr. Nagele joins us from the University of Chicago, where he served as a tenured Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience. His research spans cardiovascular medicine, genomics, perioperative science, and mental health—and includes landmark work identifying the rapid antidepressant effects of nitrous oxide in patients with severe depression. He has built and led multidisciplinary research programs that translate discovery into practical advances for patients, and his collaborative leadership will be instrumental as we continue to grow a mission‑driven, high‑performing research culture across Central Florida.
