Welcome to the ASCINA Germany chapter!
ASCINA Germany is the youngest chapter embedded in the ASCINA network. Founded by Klaus Podar and Angelika Riemer in November 2010 in Heidelberg, it provides an intellectual and social platform to scholars and scientists with past and present connections to North America working at a wide range of institutions including the University of Heidelberg; the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ); the National Center for Tumor Diseases; the Max-Planck Institutes of Astronomy, Nuclear Physics, Medical Research, and Comparative Public Law and International Law; as well as the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). Beyond the Heidelberg region we also serve members in other centers of Germany including the Medical Center of the University of Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians University); the University of Tübingen; the University of Bonn; the University of Hamburg; and the University of Freiburg.
The goal of this chapter is to support, promote and facilitate the interaction and collaboration of Austrian scientists and scholars between North America, Germany, and Austria.
Since its inception in November 2010 regular meetings of the Chapter Germany take place monthly at varying locations with a steady number of participants. Traditionally, events start with a lecture of one of the ASCINAten followed by a social gathering at one of the local restaurants or pubs.
A series of special events entitled “Kamingespräche” with preeminent Austrian Scientists talking about their unique career paths was initiated in October 2011.
In-person activities are currently paused due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
